Create a study
On the "Studies" landing screen, click on the “New Study” button. This will direct you to a form where you can name the study and give it a short description,.
Choose Start and End Dates
Following a study, study participants may choose to continue to use their Consensus Sleep Diary account to track their sleep habits. For this reason, studies will only track participant data for the duration of the study. Set the date that the study will begin tracking participant data and the date when it will stop.
Add Collaborators
Inviting your colleagues to a study as collaborators will allow them to access that study from their own account. You can invite as many collaborators as you like, but each collaborator will have to purchase their own account.
To invite a collaborator to your study, click the "Add Collaborator" button on the top right. You will be prompted to enter the collaborator's name and email. When you're ready to send them an invitation, click "Send Invitation". The collaborator will receive an email invitation to join your study in Organa.
Select Expanded Diary Questions
All study participants will be asked the nine questions from the core diary. You also have the option of asking additional "Expanded Diary Questions". These include questions on naps, caffeine/alcohol intake and medication.
The core diary questions are:
- What time did you get into bed? Write the time that you got into bed. This may not be the time that you began “trying” to fall asleep.
- What time did you try to go to sleep? Record the time that you began “trying” to fall asleep.
- How long did it take you to fall asleep? Beginning at the time you wrote in question 2, how long did it take you to fall asleep.
- How many times did you wake up, not counting your final awakening? How many times did you wake up between the time you first fell asleep and your final awakening?
- In total, how long did these awakenings last? What was the total time you were awake between the time you first fell asleep and your final awakening. For example, if you woke 3 times for 20 minutes, 35 minutes, and 15 minutes, add them all up (20+35+15= 70 min or 1 hr and 10 min).
- What time was your final awakening? Record the last time you woke up in the morning.
- What time did you get out of bed for the day? What time did you get out of bed with no further attempt at sleeping? This may be different from your final awakening time (e.g. you may have woken up at 6:35 a.m. but did not get out of bed to start your day until 7:20 a.m.)
- How would you rate the quality of your sleep? “Sleep Quality” is your sense of whether your sleep was good or poor.
- Comments If you have anything that you would like to say that is relevant to your sleep feel free to write it here.
Add Custom Questions
You can add up to 10 custom questions for your patient to answer when they complete a diary entry. When setting up a new patient, click on the "Add Question" box under "Custom Questions." This will open a form where you can define the question and any additional information that clarifies the question. You will also select a question type from the drop-down list. These are preformatted question types in the CSD, such as likert scales, duration in hours and minutes, or multiple choice. For multiple-choice questions, you will be prompted to specify the options.
Finish
Click "Create Study" and the study will now appear on your "Studies" landing screen. The collaborators you entered will be sent an email inviting them to join the study. They will be prompted to create an account if they don't already have one. Collaborators have access to all participant data included in that study.
You can have as many studies as you like. Additional studies may be purchased as an add-on cost to your subscription price in the "Extras" section of your account profile.
